A new dinosaur was discovered in patagonia, a region of south america, which is the smallest among the giants. Titanomachya gimenez, a long necked herbivore belonging to the superfamily of saltasauroidea, brought along a lot of new information about the time. Being one of the smallest members of the usually large clade of titanosauria, titanomachya weighed in at around 7.8 tonnes.
Found in outcrops of the la colonia formation, which dates to the the maastrichtian paleocene boundary 67 million years ago. This formation is best known for therapods such as Carnotaurus and Koleken.
Research from el museo paleontologico egidio feruglio states that the small size of titanomachy might’ve been due to competition with many other herbivores.National Geographics Explorer Diego Pol stating that “Prior to this discovery, there were no records of sauropod dinosaurs in this region”.
This marks yet another win for Argentina, finding their first sauropod in this locality and winning the quarter finals in the Copa America. But what do you think?
